We celebrate and welcome individuals of all abilities, and strive to be a place where all can worship and grow in their faith. We offer ministry support that extends the love and message of Jesus Christ to children with special needs and helps to incorporate them fully into the life of the church.

For Children and Students

Sunday Morning Buddy Ministry
Children with special needs are invited and encouraged to participate fully in the array of Children’s Ministries offered. We have programs at both the 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. services for 3-year-olds through grade 5. Some children with special needs benefit from individualized support. Children and buddy volunteers are matched to assure appropriate supports and assistance are available each week so they can participate fully and successfully in classes with their same-aged peers. Buddy support may also be requested for Children’s Ministries events during the registration process. If you would like additional information, please contact Jennie Smith at jsmith@florisumc.org.

Sensory Room
Our Sensory Room is located on the second floor next to the Nursery.  This therapeutic space includes a variety of equipment and toys designed to support children and students with special needs. The Sensory Room provides a safe and calm environment to promote relaxation, improve focus, and encourage appropriate social interaction. Children and students using the Sensory Room must be accompanied by a parent, staff member, or other trained adult. Access to the Sensory Room is granted by the Special Needs Coordinator.

Family Support Ministry
The Family Support Ministry is for families within the Floris UMC congregation who are raising children with special needs. Family Support volunteers provide in-home childcare every six weeks to children with special needs and their siblings so that parents/caregivers can enjoy a few hours to themselves for such things as a night out, running errands, attending meetings or church functions, etc. If you are interested in learning more about the Family Support Ministry for your family, or if you would like to volunteer to serve as a volunteer, please contact cbenson@cox.net.

We celebrate and welcome individuals of all abilities and strive to make Floris UMC a place where all can be a part of our community. In order to do that, we offer the following services for those with special needs.
