A Day of Serving

Today, our team faced a dusty challenge as we worked to pull out flood-damaged sheetrock and paneling from several rooms in a home. Our mission was to prepare the studs for new walls, which involved removing countless nails and screws. With no power in the house, we relied on a generator to run our lighting and hand tools.

A Cold Start, A Warm Heart

The morning air was brisk, but as the day progressed, we warmed up—both physically and were blessed spiritually throughout the day. Our homeowner joined us in the labor, taking breaks to share her story. She spoke about the flood, her life, her faith, and her ongoing concerns for others in the community still affected by the storm. Her gratitude was palpable; she expressed how deeply she has been touched by the kindness of helpers like our team since the disaster. She even wanted to capture the moment with photos, a testament to hope and appreciation.

Navigating Challenges

Two of us ventured out to assess a home in another community but were halted by road repairs. Many roads are being closed for repairs, significantly increasing travel times—what once took minutes now requires a two-hour journey. In a positive development, our NC UMCOR leader successfully placed five FEMA trailers today for those in need of shelter, with five hundred more trailers queued for distribution. Our homeowner is set to receive a trailer tomorrow from another source after staying with friends for more than three weeks.

Making an Impact

Tomorrow, some team members will deliver food and supplies to those isolated due to storm damage, including washed-away bridges and other access challenges. We also plan to remove flood-damaged hardwood flooring from the home we worked in today. Despite feeling sore and tired this evening, we are reminded of the small differences we’re making by being here and the large love that is behind our work. We see Christ’s presence all around us as people come together in love and genuine concern.

Thank You for Your Support

Thank you for being a church that supports these efforts. Our team feels blessed to represent you during this critical time. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we strive to make a difference.
