Disaster Relief

In response to those impacted by the devastation of the recent hurricane.

Join a Mission Trip

If you’re passionate about making a difference, consider signing up for trips to Spruce Pine, NC each month from now until March 2025 and beyond to help with disaster relief. Sign up by emailing Debbie Cali at Dcali@florisumc.org or Tim Wells at cyacard@comcast.net.

Due to the destruction, each team must have an equal number of ERT (Early Response Team trained persons) and volunteers. As you can imagine, this is limiting, however, Floris has a good number of ERT trained Persons and more ERT trainings are in the works, stay tuned for more updates. See trip dates below.

UMVIM team leader trainings will begin soon, and we are going to need many UMVIM team trainers to accommodate continued efforts. We are awaiting dates to promote as the trips move from ERT trips to UMVIM trips. The difference is the training.

To participate, some basic criteria should include the person to be in reasonably good health, willing to sleep on a cot/air mattress in a church, to listen empathetically to the victims of the disaster, flexible, able to bring clothing and other safety items, pay $100 for trip incidentals and be able to ride in a vehicle for up to 8 hours. Personal Health Insurance information is required.
