Education in the arts is an integral part of the development of children. The arts reach students not normally reached, in ways and methods not normally used. It connects students with one another and allows for self-expression. Arts encourage creative thinking, self-concept, problem-solving, self-expression and cooperation. Displaying children’s artwork gives them a sense of pride and achievement. Floris United Methodist Church has been in partnership with Hutchison Elementary for more than 15 years through programs such as PALS, Camp Hutchison and Help Hungry Kids. The artwork will be displayed in the Floris UMC Art Gallery beginning May 13. A reception will be held May 20, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Floris UMC Art Gallery located on the second floor to meet the artists. The media includes paper, collage, crayons, markers, drawings, tempera paint and textiles. The display will feature pieces from Kindergarten-grade 6. The themes used encourage students to be collaborators, global citizens, creative and critical thinkers, communicators and problem solvers.
